Diary Entry: Met Miss Gardiner in Guildford. Diary notes: Miss Gardiner was a colleague of KPD’s at Cumnor House School. As often seems to be the case, KPD remained friends with former work colleagues after she left a post.

Diary Entry: Dentist. Lecture ‘Panama Canal’ with slides. Ensa Concert. Diary notes: ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association – sometimes called ‘Every Night Something Awful’) was set up in 1939 to provide entertainment for servicemen/women. Diary Entry: General Knowledge test. Route March. Diary notes: Given the fact that she was generally well read, and enjoyed walking, neither of these training exercises probably bothered her.

Diary Entry: Met Mollie, Guildford, after Church Parade & she took me back to Hindhead. Diary notes: ‘Mollie’ is probably ‘Mollie Browning’, a friend of KPD since the mid-1930s. She seems to have lived in (or near) Hindhead.
