Diary Entry: Night Nancy. Diary notes: Nancy was a friend, presumably in the A.T.S., with whom KPD socialised regularly during the war years.

Diary Entry: Peggy Knowles 21st Party. Dairy notes: Presumably one of KPD’s A.T.S. colleagues. As KPD was 33, she might well have been one of the older members of her A.T.S. company.

Diary Entry: Saw “Charles’ American Aunt”. Diary notes: “Charles’ American Aunt” refers to the version of the film made starring Jack Benny in 1941, which is actually titled: ‘Charley’s Aunt’. Diary Entry: Convoy Llangollen, Carwen, Penmaenmawr, Denbigh, Mold. Diary notes: More than 160 miles – so a pretty long day!

Diary Entry: Went to Nancy for supper. Diary notes: Nancy was a friend, presumably in the A.T.S., with whom KPD socialised regularly during the war years.

Diary Entry: Jean Gander posted to Felstead. Diary notes: Jean Gander seems to have been one of KPD’s A.T.S. friends. Saying goodbye to colleagues you have worked (and socialised) with frequently for a time and were suddenly moved on, must have been quite a common experience.

Diary Entry: Went to Theatre. Diary notes: Sadly KPD doesn’t let us know what the play was – she enjoyed going to the theatre, although perhaps not as much as going to the “flicks” at this time in her life!
