Diary Entry: Benny & I went to theatre. Diary notes: Benny – probably ‘Benny Longmuire’ – was an A.T.S. colleague.

Diary Entry: Spent day Nancy. Sat park afternoon, Mrs Morgan & her sister to supper. Diary notes: Nancy was a friend, presumably in the A.T.S., with whom KPD socialised regularly during the war years. The Morgans were friends KPD mentions during these years.

Diary Entry: Hitched & bused Overton, Ellesmere, Oswestry & Wrexham. Diary notes: Approximately 35 miles, so not as far as the hitches a week earlier. KPD, as usual, taking full opportunity to travel on Saturday (presumably her day off).

This seems to be the only mention of ‘Brookie’ in KPD’s diaries, so it is unclear whom exactly she is; almost certainly another A.T.S. colleague.

Diary Entry: Hitched from Rhuddlan to Bodelwyddan, Colwyn Bay, Betwys-y-Coed, Capel Curig & Bangor & back to Rhyl. Diary notes: These hitches were some 85 miles in all, so a busy day! It shows how hitching was a good way to get around during the war years.
