Diary Entry: “Holiday Inn” at camp. Diary notes: “Holiday Inn” may refer to the American musical film written by Irving Berlin, starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Diary Entry: Went to Theatre with Nancy. Diary notes: Nancy (who may be the same as the ‘Nan Poynton’ mentioned elsewhere by KPD) was a friend, presumably in the A.T.S., with whom KPD socialised regularly during the war years.

Diary Entry: On Duty. Flora came over & brought tea. Drove late transport. Diary notes: ‘Flora’ is Flora Gardner, a friend from a family living near Berkhamsted, where KPD had lived years before, now living near Llangollen.

Diary Entry: Lunch at Swan. Sat in park. Diary notes: The Swan, which may be the 16th Century inn at Taporley near Chester, was a regular eating place for KPD in those days. The Swan in the 21st Century

Diary Entry: Night in Chester. Went to Prestatyn & lovely walk back to Mostyn. Diary notes: This was a walk of 7 to 8 miles – KPD again indulging one of her preferred leisure pursuits (walking) on a Saturday.
