Diary Entry: Drove 549 again. Took Maj. Crawford Croydon a.m. Saw “Weekend at The Waldorf”. Diary entry: The ‘549’ is a Hillman car KPD had mentioned before.  “Weekend at The Waldorf” is a 1945 US comedy drama film starring Ginger Rogers, Walter Pidgeon and Lana Turner. Diary Entry: Went rushes Frances. Called Anthony Diary notes: ‘Rushes’ refers to the raw film shot during one day. See: https://www.mediacollege.com/glossary/r/rushes.html  Anthony is Anthony Dell, KPD’s (closest) brother. 

Diary Entry: Helped D. Went walk. Diary notes: ‘D’ is ‘Dulcie McDiarmid. For more information see yesterday’s diary notes. 

Diary Entry: Went to Gerrards X [Cross] for night. Diary notes: Dulcie (&  her husband Ian) McDiarmid were friends of KPD’s mother, and of KPD herself and lived in Gerrards Cross.  

Diary Entry: V.O.R. [Vehicle Off Road] Supper & evening Valerie. Diary notes: ‘Valerie’ may well be ‘Valerie Evans’, who was a friend KPD had met after joining the A.T.S., but there are other Valeries she knew around this time.

Diary Entry: Went up London. NA.A.F.I. pm. Saw “A Bell for Adano”. Accepted post at Woodbridge. Diary notes: Woodbridge is only 20 miles or so from Dallinghoo, where KPD’s brother Anthony had lived with Peggy, his wife, and two young children (both born during the war). Diary Entry: On distribution London district. Cosgroves evening. Diary notes: It’s a shame KPD doesn’t say what she was ‘distributing’? Film perhaps? Mail/packages?  Another evening KPD mentions spending with the ‘Cosgroves’.

Diary Entry: Busy & walked. Returned. Diary notes: Given that KPD was staying with her brother’s family which included two young children, being ‘busy’ was probably helping with them. 

Diary Entry: 10am train to Woodbridge. Interview Capt. Riddell & tea there. 4.16 back & on to Jasmine Cottage, Sunbury for night. Diary notes: KPD was – wisely – looking to the future after leaving the A.T.S. In fact this interview was successful and she would start a job as a matron in the boarding …
