Went “Jane Eyre” Diary notes: The reference to ‘Jane Eyre’ is most likely a visit to the cinema to see the (then) new film adaptation starring Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine. Diary Entry: ‘Took Col. Houndall to Frinton for lunch. Tea Colchester. Called (neé White) On H.[Home] Guard exercise most of night’. Diary notes: A busier day (and night) for KPD – around 90 miles of driving – and the unspecified Home Guard exercises afterwards.

Diary Entry: ‘Took Lt Col Houndall Colchester-Ipswich etc. Went home for night.’ Diary notes: After a drive of over 80 miles, KPD had another 60 miles to go home to Orpington, just for one night apparently.
