Diary Entry: Church am. Very hot. Bused back. Diary notes: All her life KPD was a keen churchgoer, though her allegiance to a specific church was less than that to churches in general. 

Diary Entry: Went Abbots Langely for night. Hitched Egham from Englefield to Watford. Bus on. Barbara (Berry) & Rosalind there. Diary notes: Englefield to Watford is around 50 miles, so a fair journey.

Diary Entry: Went to see ‘Now Voyager’  Bonsey & Janet Diary notes: ‘Bonsey’ and Janet (Davies) were friends of KPD. “Now Voyager” was a 1943 American film drama starring Bette Davis.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now,_Voyager 

Diary Entry: ‘Tea at Ewhurst’ Diary notes: Ewhurst is a village about 16 miles from Seale. The Davies’ – who lived there – seem to have been two sisters, Janet & (name unknown) – and were friends of KPD. It’s quite likely that she either cycled or hitched there. 

Diary Entry: Instructed London. Tea Kennington. Supper Knowles. Diary notes: Presumably ‘Knowles’ was another A.T.S. friend of KPD.

Diary Entry: Janet Davies & I went church Bagshot I biked to see Audrey Swift pm. Diary notes: Presumably ‘Audrey Swift’ was another friend KPD had met through the A.T.S.

Diary Entry: Bonsey & I tea at Jolly. Duty driver. Diary notes: ‘Bonsey’ was a friend of KPD, but as quite often in her diary, KPD uses a nick-name.

Diary Entry: Biked over to see Rosemary. Diary notes: ‘Rosemary’ may be ‘Rosemary Field’, a friend from pre-war days. 

Diary Entry: Went to tea Knowles, Bagshot Diary notes: Possibly Peggy Knowles, one of KPD’s A.T.S. colleagues. 

Diary Entry: ‘Went with Bec. Litchfield to “Claudia”Tea at Jolly.’ Diary notes: “Claudia” is a 1943 U.S. comedy film starring Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young. More information here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_(1943_film)
