Diary Entry: Fetched Miss Davies & Ann for pay. Peggy & Elizabeth back & in my room. Diary notes: Presumably all A.T.S. colleagues.

Diary Entry: Took Maj. Crawford London. Three journeys, Wembley. Evening Cosgroves. Diary notes: Another busy day driving Major Crawford round London. Even though KPD has said she had a new billet, she mentions the Cosgroves again, suggesting they were friends as well as (perhaps) where KPD had been billeted previously.

Diary Entry: Tea & supper Pitts. Diary notes: The Pitts, who were were friends and neighbours of the Dells in Orpington. Elaine Dell, wife of Martin Dell, was a Pitt.

Diary Entry: Foggy so went home. 10 am train. Home by 10pm. Diary notes: This was trip of around 420 miles with changes of train. KPD did well to travel home (Orpington) from Glasgow in one day.

Diary Entry: Stopped Pitlochry for lunch & walk. Arrived Glasgow 5.30. Rotten hostel. Diary notes: Personal judgements are pretty rare in KPD’s diary – so the Glasgow hostel must really have been below par!

Diary Entry: Explored Inverness & Ness Islands. Went to Dingwall by bus & hitched Stathpeffer (sic) [‘Strathpeffer’]. Bus back. Diary notes: The Ness Islands are actually in Inverness in the Ness River. KPD probably enjoyed walking round them.

Diary Entry: 9.15 bus to Fort William via Fort Augustus & Loch Ness. Walked. Saw Ben Nevis. Left again 4 p.m. Diary notes: A pretty busy day, but KPD found time to do some walking. Knowing her, I suspect she regretted not being able to walk up Ben Nevis.
