Diary entry: Children returned. Diary notes: Rossholme School, a private girls school, existed from 1888-2005 (http://www.rossholme.co.uk/rossholme-history). This was KPD’s first post in a school (having previously worked as a Nanny looking after children in various families).

Diary entry: Started work. Diary notes: KPD had been working at Rossholme School, Weston-super-Mare since January 1937, first as ‘Assistant Matron’ and from April 1939 as ‘Head Matron’.

Diary entry: Gertrude saw me off at Padd[ington] Went to flat for night. Diary notes: Gertrude was a friend KPD saw frequently – being mentioned in the diaries from 1933 to 1977 (as Gertrude) and then to 1986 (as Trudie).

Diary entry: Went home & packed. Diary notes: It appears that KPD had been staying at Knockholt. She was now going back to work.

Diary entry: Biked back to Knockholt. Diary notes: Home for KPD was still her Mother’s home, 35 Broxbourne Road, Orpington, Kent, so the bike ride to Knockholt was only around 7 miles.

Diary entry: Went to Lewis’ for night. Dairy notes: The Lewis’ were a family KPD worked for as a nanny, who became friends in Crofton, near Farnborough, living at Orchard Cottage. Apparently KPD got to drive their Bentley!
