Diary Entry: Finished maintaining. Went to “The True Glory” & “The Hidden Eyes” (sic). Diary notes: Another cinema double bill: “The True Glory” was a joint US and GB documentary made in 1945 about victory on the Western Front. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_True_Glory “The Hidden Eye” was a now practically forgotten 1945 ‘film noir’ starring Edward Arnold …
Diary Date: 27th August [1945]
Diary Entry: Car in garage, Maintenance. Lecture “The Press”. Very hot. Diary notes: Another day when KPD was quite possibly twiddling her thumbs (something she hated) whilst the car was repaired; unless she helped out, of course!
Diary Date: 26th August [1945]
Diary Entry: Betty, Christopher & I went walk round Martin’s Chapel. Tea Wulfruna. Called Yewdalls. Lovely sunny day. Diary notes: From an earlier diary entry (January 1st 1938!), it seems that ‘Wulfrana’ might well be the name of the house where the ‘Smallwoods’ lived. And the ‘Yewdalls’ were other friends from the time when KPD …

Diary Date: 24th August [1945]
Diary Entry: Took Maj. Crawford & Betty to Eastcote am. The “General” to Southall. Diary notes: The use of inverted commas round the title suggests (to me at least) that this might well refer to someone with pretensions rather then the actual rank of ‘General’.
Diary Date: 23rd August [1945]
Diary Date: Took over Austin 513. Pretty poor.. Diary notes: The new car, an Austin 513, didn’t meet KPD’s standards. However exactly what the car was is not clear, as no ‘Austin 513’ is listed! (As far as I can find out).
Diary Date: 22nd August [1945]
Diary Entry: Saw “Frisco Sal” & “The Woman in Green”. Diary notes: A double bill at the cinema (not unusual in those days): “Frisco Sal” is an American film from 1945 starring Susanna Foster. See here for more details: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisco_Sal “The Woman in Green” is a 1945 US film about Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson …
Diary Date: 21st August [1945]
Diary Entry: Evening Cosgroves. New driver in room. Diary notes: The mention of a ‘new driver in room’ does strengthen the idea that the ‘Cosgroves’ may have been KPD’s landlords.
Diary Date: 20th August [1945]
Diary Entry: Car in W/S [‘Work Shop’] Diary entry: Again, one wonders what KPD’s duties were when her car was ‘off the road’. Especially now that the war was over!
