Diary Entry: Went to Bosham & spent day with Betty Hughes, saw Anthony, Christopher & Elizabeth.
Diary notes: Bosham, a small coastal village near Chichester, was not far from where KPD’s family had lived early in the 20th Century. Betty Hughes was a friend from that time.
Dear Giles,
Yes, I remember the Hughes family. I think the father worked with my father in the RN Scientific Service: there were several children about my age and they lived in Bosham certainly until mid/late ‘50s I think and then moved to Ireland?.
Penny and I met Philip & Clare Willatt recently at Snape Maltings for a pub lunch and we had Tea at their home nearby; a real pleasure to see them again and they are such kind people. We were spending a couple of days at Orford; very similar to Bosham but prettier and more remote, in order to see Sutton Hoo.
Love to you both,
B&P

Dear Bill,
That’s fascinating. How wonderful something KPD wrote 80 years ago can still be verified today. We’ve never been to Sutton Hoo, but having watched ‘The Dig’ (an excellent film we thoroughly recommend, by the way) we’d like to go one day!
Love to you both,
Giles
