Diary notes: ‘Elaine’ is Elaine Dell, née Pitt, first wife of Martin Dell (KPD’s eldest brother) and mother of his two eldest children (Tessa & Michael, born 1935 & 1936 respectively). Jerviswood (a house in Lower Green Road, Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells) was the home of KPD’s Uncle Claude Evershed and his wife, Clara; Elaine lived nearby.
